In league with…

I’m feeling like I’ve sold my soul this weekend. There’s always a story to go with these kind of thoughts.

Before Christmas I’d been considering how to move to less consumption of paper for worship. Prior to Christmas, a service could be between 10 – 15 sheets of paper. That maybe doesn’t seem a lot, until I started to consider the number of things I was printing out over a whole week. My kind husband helped me to move to adapting with the purchase he made for my Christmas present, and the last few weeks have seen me embrace my new technology by preaching, praying and even managing a children’s talk from my new tablet.

That part of my month, I think was a natural progression in embracing something of the new in the changing world.

It was Friday that began my decline into the realms of seeking my soul.

Due to speak at an older adults group in the mid-morning, I had arrived early to set up computer and screen before going to school assembly. Screen and projector in place, I set about getting the computer going. After 5 attempts to switch it on, it was having none of it or telling me that I hadn’t shut it down properly.

My philosophy is always walk away and try again later. So after school I returned. This time I managed to get to the slides, but the computer would not communicate with the projector. That’s okay, I thought, I could still use the slides for myself as notes. But no, the slides wouldn’t move forward or back. I managed, if there is one thing most ministers can do, it’s speak with or without notes. Whether you make sense, cover what you want to say or are remotely interesting is another matter.

To be honest the computer has been on its way out for a wee while now, and I’m a make do kind of girl. This however has been the last straw.

Saturday was new computer search day. I went planning to buy something similar to what I had, I came back feeling I had sold out. Given that I now expect a computer to just about make the tea, I soon realised that I might end up buying into a lifestyle.

So now I’m all matching, and I can see the distinct benefit of everything syncing together, particularly when you regularly forget to fill in your diary. I liked the fact I could turn on and was able to get writing within 10 minutes, rather than having to go through the whole process of set up.

I’m not liking the having to learn new commands, ways of saving, finding things. I admitted yesterday I’m not great with change…

Perhaps worth remembering when I expect others to change.
